Written by AHEAD StaffAHEAD was founded in 1990 with the central objective of ensuring full access to and the full participation of people with disabilities in higher education in Ireland and to ensure access to employment for graduates with disabilities.
In 2000, AHEAD was established as a company limited by guarantee and also a registered charity. Operating as a company the activities of AHEAD are overseen by a Board of Directors. The Directors work in a voluntary capacity giving guidance on the direction and work of AHEAD. The work of the Board of Directors and staff of AHEAD is governed by the mission statement of the organisation:
"To promote full access to and full participation in higher education by students with disabilities and to assist in their employment on graduation."
